![]() ![]() Develop an understanding of how sensor-based monitoring, energy harvesting, material properties and design (e.g., aggregate source and consensus properties, gradation analysis, bitumen percentage and quality), construction (e.g., HMA production, hauling, and placement operations) impact functional properties and people health. Stimulate a corresponding interest in smart cities and smart roads per se, in terms of construction issues, environmental impact of transportation infrastructures, new vehicles, within the context of transportation/pavement performance more broadly. Stimulate an interest in smart roads and smart cities as the basis for citizen health in current or/and critical conditions (e.g., virus pandemic, particulate matter pollution, and digital/technological contexts). As for the previous years, interesting job and research perspectives could emerge and be developed. Importantly, this fascinating course focuses on how smart cities, transportation infrastructures, and mobility will be crucial in detecting, improving, and managing people health and life quality in future smart cities. Overall, smarter infrastructures, self-monitored environmental systems, better managed transportation assets, electric vehicles, and driverless vehicles could allow safer, more efficient, more sustainable cities. At the same time, road-related technological innovations are the basis for future smart cities. ![]() Smart roads, intelligent transportation systems, electric vehicles, and driverless vehicles have become outstanding areas of potential for industry, research, scientific projects, and career opportunities. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) impact safety, traffic management, diagnostics, environment, users, and people assistance. With respect to the courses previously presented, this year’s course will build on the discussion of new frontiers, new projects, and issues that emerged in 2020/2022, including the European projects LIFE E-VIA and LIFE SNEAK where the lecturer is involved. ![]()
